SHARS Handbook of October 2022: Amendments to SLP Provider Requirements
Fairbanks posted a clarification yesterday of the changes to SLP services requirements for SHARS. These rules are based on direction from TDLR, and the OIG on behalf of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
“As of October 1, 2022, speech and language services must be provided by a qualified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) licensed in the state of Texas. Speech and language services can also be provided by a licensed SLP intern or a licensed assistant in speech-language pathology acting under the supervision and direction of a licensed SLP.”
Grandfathered, TEA-certified, and SBEC-certified SLPs are no longer eligible to submit SHARS speech therapy claims. Those categories have been moved from the Participant List template for Direct Services and Admin Cost Pool to the Admin Only Cost Pool (MAC ONLY).
Additional details are outlined in the Fairbanks link above.
Reminder: Any district that has certified their PL prior to November 18, 2022 must review and re-certify the PL after the November 18 Effective Date Job Category changes.
Thank you all, again, for your continued attention and adherence to changing requirements and regulations during this SHARS transition period of moving to greater Medicaid reporting and accountability.
